SMSs are a crucial part of how Te Rito works
Right now, there’s no easy way to share ākonga and learner information safely when they move schools.
But when a school’s student management system (SMS) connects to Te Rito, and data from other systems is added to the platform, more information for each learner is available for other connected schools to access – even if they use a different SMS.
Te Rito isn’t an SMS and isn’t replacing them – it complements them
When schools connect to Te Rito, they’ll continue to use their SMS for all the other functions that their SMS has – including creating and updating learner records.
The SMS continues to be the school's official source of learner information.
Te Rito works by pulling learning information from a range of systems into a single view. This is how it’s able to create an end-to-end record that follows each learner as they move between schools.
Integrating SMSs with Te Rito
Edge, eTAP, Kamar and Helix currently have one-way connections to Te Rito and we’re working with others to integrate them using secure API-based connection technology.
If you’re interested in integrating with Te Rito, email us for copies of our current integration documents. These include the requirements you will need to meet.
You can also visit our API site for technical guidance on the integration process, including how to access the sandbox environment.
